Privacy Policy

In short: we collect only what a dating service needs, we only ask for your first name and show other members just that, we never sell your information, and you can delete your account and photos whenever you like.

1. Who looks after your information

Lovebirds Asia ("Lovebirds", "we", "us") is responsible for the personal information described here. Contact us at hello@lovebirds.asia.

2. What we collect

From Google or Apple when you sign in: your name, email address and, from Google, your profile picture.
What you tell us: first name, man or woman, date of birth, the country you join in, your town, who you're looking for, your bio and your language.
Photos you add, and an optional selfie if you choose to get the photo-verified badge.
Your mobile number, when you add it.
The country your internet connection comes from, worked out from your IP address when you add your number, to check you're joining from the country you choose. We keep only the country, not the address.
Activity in the app: likes, matches, messages, reports, blocks, and when you were last active.
Device information: a notification token so we can send you alerts, and basic technical logs that keep the service secure.

Lovebirds is for adults only. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we close any account we find belonging to a minor.

3. What other members see

Other members see your first name, age, town, country, photos, bio, whether your photo is verified (and your phone, if it was verified by text code), and whether you've been active recently. They never see your email address, phone number or date of birth.

4. How we use it

To run your account and show you people, matches and messages.
To keep members safe: checking that photos show a real person and nothing explicit, holding back messages that contain links, contact details or requests for money, and reviewing reports.
To translate a message when you tap Translate.
To send notifications you've switched on, and important messages about your account.
To meet our legal duties and respond to lawful requests.

We use this information because it's needed to provide the service you signed up for, to keep members safe, and where you have given your consent (for example, notifications or the optional selfie). You can withdraw consent at any time in the app.

5. Who we share it with

We never sell your personal information or share it for advertising. We use trusted service providers who process it only on our instructions:

Google (Firebase and Google Cloud): hosting, database and photo storage in Singapore, sign-in and phone verification, notifications, photo checks and message translation.
Apple: Sign in with Apple and notifications on iPhone.

We may also share information with the police or other authorities where the law requires it or someone's safety is at risk, or with a buyer if the service is ever sold, under the same protections.

6. Where it's stored

Your information is stored on Google servers in Singapore and may be handled by our providers in other countries. Where it moves between countries, we rely on those providers' legal safeguards.

7. How long we keep it

Your profile, photos, likes and matches stay while your account is open.
When you delete your account in the app, we delete your profile, photos, likes, matches and the chats you were part of, and your sign-in.
Reports and safety records are kept for up to 12 months after the account closes (longer only if needed for a legal matter), so banned people can't simply return and so we can help the authorities if needed.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask to see, correct, download or delete your information, or object to how we use it. Most of this you can do yourself in the Profile tab. For anything else, write to hello@lovebirds.asia from the email you sign in with, and we'll reply within 30 days. You can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.

9. Security

Your information is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is restricted to people who need it, and contact details are never shown in chat. No system is perfect, so please use a secure sign-in and tell us straight away if you think your account has been misused.

10. Cookies

The website stores only what's needed to keep you signed in and remember your language and country. We don't use advertising cookies.

11. Changes

If we make an important change to this policy we'll tell you in the app before it applies.
